The idea of founding an Inner Wheel Club in Switzerland came from France. Under the patronage of the Annemasse Club, wives of Rotarians from various Rotary clubs in the region came together to form the Morges Club on 1 July 1981. On 2 April 1982, this first Inner Wheel club in Switzerland received its charter in official ceremonies presided by ? with ?? in attendance.

The following year, a second club, Zürich-Knonaueramt, was founded in German-speaking Switzerland. By 1987, there were enough clubs in Switzerland to comprise a district. Inner Wheel District 199 was born. At the time, most clubs were located in Suisse Romande - the French-speaking part of Switzerland.

There are currently 40 clubs in the district. Of these, 8 are in French-speaking Switzerland and 32 in the German-speaking part. Unfortunately, there is no longer a club in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland.

Inner Wheel is recognised as an NGO and has observer status at the UN.

By supporting social projects in the region, at home and abroad and within and outside Europe, Inner Wheel promotes women and families and thus actively works for peace.
